Dental Veneers

Those perfectly symmetrical smiles you see are often created the help of dental veneers. Veneers are mostly used to address cosmetic concerns and improve the appearance of front teeth.

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are thin shells that are permanently attached to the front of your teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers are mostly used to treat cosmetic concerns. Everything from chipped, broken, discoloured, gapped, pointy, small or uneven teeth.

It is possible to treat just one tooth with veneers, however, many people opt to have a series of teeth treated at the same time for the most natural look. Dental veneers are most common on the top front teeth as these teeth are most visible when you talk, eat, laugh and smile.

Types of veneers

Porcelain veneers

  • Traditionally seen as the preferred material for veneers due to its durability.

  • Natural teeth are re-shaped (filed) to fit the veneer to create a seamless, natural look.

  • Higher chip and stain resistance to food and drink including red wine, coffee and tea.

  • Cost is usually slightly higher for porcelain veneers.

  • Initial treatment may take longer due to preparation required.

Composite veneers

  • A less invasive option also known as ‘no-prep’ veneers.

  • A resin-composite material is shaped and polished directly onto the teeth in layers to create natural-looking finish.

  • Quicker to apply than porcelain, making it a more cost-effective option than traditional veneers.

  • Considered reversible because there is no need to file the teeth underneath.

Transform your smile with same-day veneers

Our dentists use the latest technology to help you design your ideal smile. With the aid of our digital smile design software, we can quickly take precise scans of your teeth and show you exactly what your smile would look like with veneers. This computer aided imaging takes away the guesswork and helps plan your treatment goals and expectations.

Should I get veneers?

Our dentists can provide information about different types of veneers and show you how your smile will look but ultimately deciding whether to get veneers a personal decision. Some important things to remember:

  • Veneers need healthy teeth underneath so any treatment for tooth decay or gum problems needs to be done first.

  • Veneers are a cosmetic solution for minor problems - eg cracked, broken, slightly irregular, stained or discoloured teeth.

  • For badly misaligned teeth or larger gaps, an orthodontic solution like clear aligners [INSERT LINK] may be more appropriate.

It can take a little time to get used to veneers but soon the new shape and size of your teeth will feel just like normal and you can enjoy your new smile with confidence.
