 Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I visit the dentist? +

Regular 6-month checkups coupled with a good at home dental care routine will keep your mouth healthy while preventing inflammation, infection, decay, and tooth loss. Dental exams & cleans help us in evaluating the effectiveness of your current routine while providing suggestions to protect you from common complications such as cavities and gum disease. Regular visits allow us to quickly and easily detect and fix problems early, before they become really troublesome.

How Can You Prepare for a Dental Exam? +

Before you arrive for your appointment, make sure to brush your teeth as it’s helpful to remove as much plaque as possible beforehand so we can focus on more urgent areas.

You may be asked to discuss your medical history, Private Health insurance details, and your at home dental care routine with us. It's best to be honest about your oral hygiene habits, as we are not here to judge you, and we want to work with you to improve your oral health!

How Long Does a Dental Cleaning Take? +

Depending on a patient’s oral health, the average dental cleaning procedure can take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. More is involved in a dental cleaning than just the physical act of cleaning!

During the clean, your dental hygienist will:

  • check your gums for disease
  • check your teeth for cavities
  • check the space between your teeth and gums for signs of gum disease
  • examine your teeth, tongue, and other oral cavities to ensure they are healthy and not an impediment to your health
  • remove any plaque or tartar build-up
  • may apply flouride to strengthen your enamel at the end of the clean
  • may take X-rays of your teeth and jaw.
